Remember when we had Westin Philippine Plaza Manila back then? It was among the most luxurious, grandest hotels in the city, if not the entire country. When I booked at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok, I was ready to reminisce the old days of that glorious hotel in Manila, but I was treated to a whole new experience focused on revitalizing one’s well-being. Apparently, this is the image Westin Hotels and Resorts goes for globally nowadays. Read more…
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok is situated along Sukhumvit Road, on its intersection with Sukhumivit Soi 19. The area is known for one of Bangkok’s most popular shopping malls, Terminal 21, and Korean Town, which is a couple blocks away. Also within easy reach by foot are the row of bars, clubs, and pubs at Sukhumvit Soi 11.
The hotel is just a few steps away from the Asok BTS Station and the Sukhumvit MRT Station, which both open it up to the rest of the city. The shopping district at Siam is therefore only four stations away by BTS, while Chatuchak Weekend Market is merely one quick MRT ride away.
Upon checking their website, I was already looking forward to experiencing the new Westin. The Westin Well-Being Movement, an initiative that invites guests to discover new approaches to wellness at the Westin and beyond. The six pillars of the movement—Sleep Well, Eat Well, Move Well, Feel Well, Work Well, and Play Well—can be felt across the brand’s properties worldwide, including the one in Bangkok.
As we were checked in by one of their hospitable front staff to a Premium Deluxe Room, I immediately drawn to the Heavenly Bed. As described in their website, the bed’s components—the 250–thread count sheet, the down duvet, five plush pillows of varying firmness, and custom pillow-top mattress—were designed to promote superior slumber. They aren’t lying when they say guests would get “deep, restorative sleep” because I know I did.
The recently refurbished room likewise comes with a slew of features and amenities: a luxe couch, a glass executive desk, a satellite LCD TV, a minibar, a Lavazza A Modo Mio Coffee Maker, a Bluetooth speaker dock, and a console that controls the room’s lighting and temperature. Premium Deluxe Rooms are reserved for the hotel’s upper floors for sweeping views of the city.
Another offering to love is the Heavenly Shower that dribbles large droplets of water, “creating the effect of a warm and gentle rain.” Each luxuriant shower is best accompanied with a suite of Westin-branded towels and robes, and a suite of White Tea by Westin bath amenities.
Elsewhere are a range of features expected of an upscale luxury hotel, including two top restaurants and a bar. Seasonal Tastes, the hotel’s popular international buffet restaurant, presents a wide array of breakfast items from Western classics to Thai favorites.
As fitness is integral to one’s well-being after all, Westin Workout, the hotel’s fitness center, offers only state-of-the-art equipment from international brands. And to complement every great workout are a gorgeous swimming pool and their very own Vareena Spa.
In all, it was a great stay at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok. The perspective that focuses on caring for every guests’ well-being is not only worthwhile—it’s also fresh and unique. And trust a globally-recognized Starwood Hotels and Resort brand as The Westin to provide only topnotch rooms, facilities, location, and service.
