Metro Cebu has a long list of accommodations, and truth be told, it’s hard to cull the list for the really good ones—most are just acceptable at best. Checking HotelQuickly, I chanced upon St. Mark Hotel, a boutique property tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cebu. Read more…
LOCATION
With Redemptorist Church just in front, St. Mark Hotel is secluded from the traffic of nearby major thoroughfares, like General Maxilom Avenue and Osmena Boulevard. Being in Cebu City, everything is within reach, including shopping malls and restaurants. Taxis and Uber cars ply the area, but within a few minutes’ walk, jeepneys may be taken to almost anywhere. Its location, by the way, is ideal for Sinulog Festival every January, as the parade route is really nearby.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Opened only in 2012, the hotel calls itself boutique, and with its homey character, it isn’t hard to believe so. And besides, it only has 56 rooms. By the usual standards, it may qualify as a three-star, and it surely suitable for both leisure and business travelers.
ROOMS
Tastefully decorated and modern, their rooms are homey enough to evoke that boutique hotel feel, and unlike other independently-owned hotels here in the Philippines, the owners did a great job in terms of maintenance. Their rooms come with conveniences expected of a respectable hotel, and their bed is absolutely comfortable.
FACILITIES
The hotel has five meeting rooms and a small ballroom that are equipped with the modern facilities. However, it does not offer much to their stay-in guests.
FOOD AND DRINK
The hotel has an elegant all-day dining restaurant called Halo on its second floor. We tried their mostly-Filipino breakfast, and for a hotel its class, it was very satisfactory. We loved their champorado (chocolate porridge) and their local danggit (salted, sun-dried rabbitfish).
SERVICE
Staff are absolutely warm, helpful, and efficient, but they seem to be by-the-book. It’s quite understandable though for smaller hotels like these, where staff have fewer liberties.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Despite being technically mid-range, St. Mark Hotel Cebu is already ranked among the pricier options in Cebu. But since it’s among the better hotels in the city overall, it’s worth the money for those who don’t mind paying extra for comfort when traveling.
