When I first read the news that a low-cost carrier (LCC) is flying from Singapore to Athens, Greece, I was honestly surprised. But indeed, Singapore-based Scoot, hailed as the best LCC in Asia-Pacific for 2016 by AirlineRatings.com, is launching a 4x-weekly direct service between Singapore and Athens starting June 20, 2017. It will be the airline’s first European route, and it will be the longest flight operated by an LCC, with a distance exceeding 10,000 km.
With Scoot’s cooperation with Tigerair, its fellow LCC under the Singapore Airlines Group, we Filipinos have the chance to fly from the Philippines to Athens, Greece with just one stop in Singapore. Scoot and Tigerair, in their respective websites, are offering tickets from Manila, Clark, Cebu, and Kalibo to Athens and back, with the Philippines to Singapore flight operated by Tigerair and the Singapore to Athens flight operated by Scoot.
Connecting in Singapore between flights is hassle-free with the Scoot-Thru or Tigerconnect product. Either service allows passengers to simply remain at Changi Airport’s transit area, without having to clear immigration, claim baggage, and check in again.
The Singapore-Athens route will be operated by the widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the sole aircraft type in Scoot’s fleet. One of the most advanced and most sought after aircraft in the industry today, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is configured by the airline to have two cabins: Economy and ScootBiz.
In Economy, apart from Standard seats, there are Super seats and Stretch seats for extra legroom, and there’s also a ScootinSilence Economy quiet zone, which is a child-free section. In ScootBiz, on the other hand, passengers enjoy an all-leather seat with 38” seat pitch and adjustable leg rest, along with bundled meals, drinks, in-seat power, ScootTV inflight streaming entertainment, priority check-in privilege, two pieces hand luggage, and 30kg check-in baggage. In both cabins, inflight wi-fi is available, and all seats are equipped with in-seat power.
With Scoot, it goes without saying that Singapore-Athens airfares are cheaper than full-service carriers. As a matter of fact, it is offering 288 SGD (9,950 PHP) one-way Economy FLY fares inclusive of taxes and 888 SGD (30,670 PHP) one-way ScootBiz fares also inclusive of taxes. For a further 10% off on selected FLYBAG and FLYBAGEAT fares, the promo code GREEKON may be used. The promo is available until August 31, 2016, and the travel period is from June 20, 2017 until March 25, 2018.
The Singapore-Athens route will be operated with the following schedule effective June 20, 2017:
