With its East and West Wings, the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur holds the distinction of being the hotel with the most rooms in the city. One would think that being a big hotel would mean that the experience would be in some ways lacking, but as I slept there for a couple of nights, all aspects of my stay were perfect, especially with the service I received.
LOCATION
The Renaissance Kuala Lumpur is located between Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and Bukit Bintang, making both must-visit places reachable in a few minutes by foot. Both offer a bevy of attractions, unparalleled shopping, havens for food lovers, and vibrant nightlife.
Accessibility is no problem. KL Sentral, the city’s largest multimodal transport hub, can be accessed from the Bukit Nanas Monorail Station, which is practically on the hotel’s doorstep. Taxis are waiting outside the hotel at any time, and Uber cars ply the area nonstop.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Part of the Marriott Lifestyle Collection, Renaissance Hotels carries the mantra, Live Life to Discover, in which the brand seeks to provide “a unique guest experience woven through design, service and unique programming inspired by each destination’s locale.” Guests may expect the hotels’ R Navigators to recommend the best places in the area—from dining to sightseeing.
The hotel has two wings or buildings, one of which used to be the New World Hotel and later rebranded to New World Renaissance Hotel. New World Hotels ceded the Renaissance brand to Marriott International, and hence, both hotels were amalgamated into what it is today.
As the merger happened, the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur renamed its two buildings as the East Wing and the West Wing. The former already completed its renovation some years back, while the latter is undergoing its facelift in phases. Both carry a luxurious, five-star feel through their opulent interiors and respective high-ceiling lobbies.
ROOMS
I was booked in a beautiful Lifestyle Room at the East Wing. Its primary selling point is its panoramic view of the Petronas Towers, which looks even more majestic when lit at night.
Set in relaxing earth tones and more spacious than other hotel rooms of the same class, the room boasts of conveniences expected of a five-star hotel, including the cozy Renaissance Bed, which “combines high-performance comfort and resilience with patented edge and weight-absorption technologies” for optimal support. The bathroom, on the other hand, is supplied with a suite of towels and fragrant toiletries from TokyoMilk by Margot Elena.
FACILITIES
Being the hotel with the most rooms in Kuala Lumpur, the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur has, of course, a complete range of facilities, such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a fitness center, a spa, a tennis court, and a good number of ballrooms and function rooms.
For I was staying in a Lifestyle Room, I had access to the Lifestyle Lounge at the East Wing. The elegantly-style lounge serves continental breakfast, midday snack, afternoon tea, evening cocktails, dessert, and all-day refreshments. It offers business services as well.
FOOD AND DRINK
I tried the breakfast at TEMPTationS of the East Wing and Vogue Cafe of the West Wing. Both serve an extensive array of Malaysian, Asian, and Western breakfast items.
SERVICE
Service was friendly and efficient, especially at the Lifestyle Lounge where I spent a lot of time in. The lounge staff, excellent at providing personalized service, anticipated my needs and provided them with a smile.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Rates at the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur don’t cost too much compared to other hotels of the same class. And with its perks and amenities, the Lifestyle Room is actually good value for money.
