For the second time, Red Bull Philippines presented its edition of Red Bull Thre3Style 2015, which had a national finals round at Valkyrie last June 29th. Red Bull Thre3Style is a global competition that pits DJ’s head-on, as they are evaluated on their technical ability and the crowd’s reaction on the dance floor. DJ’s are only given 15 minutes to wow the judges in terms of the following criteria: originality in song choices, confidence performing, and mixing prowess.
Cinching his second Philippine title, defending champion DJ Carlo Atendido bested five other national finalists in delivering sick beats, mad DJ-ing skills, technical wizardry, and the ability to keep the crowd engaged and grooving. Coming in as first runner-up is another finalist from last year, DJ Nikita del Rosario, while 18-year-old DJ Miguel de Borja claimed second runner-up. The three successfully impressed judges impress the two judges, multiple DMC title holder DJ Shortkut and Vestax-ITF-DMC Champion VDJ Ta-Shi.
DJ Carlo will be representing the country in the Red Bull Thre3style World DJ Championships 2015, which will be held later this year in Tokyo, Japan. Last year, DJ Carlo was able to place third in the global competition, and he’s hopeful and determined to improve our country’s standing this year. He said, “Well, last year we got third [place]. So I’m hoping we can move up a slot or, you know, we get first. I’ll do my best—again—to represent us all.”
