Although I was bound for Asian shopping mecca Bangkok, I opted to drop by the SM Aura Premiere branch of UNIQLO Philippines to do some jeans shopping. I could’ve easily picked a pair from say Platinum Fashion Mall or Chatuchak Weekend Market in the Thai capital, but I chose to buy a pair here in good ol’ Manila because the popular Japanese fast fashion brand just released a new line called Re-Jean or Reimagined Jeans. UNIQLO’s reinvention of the wardrobe staple, Re-Jean innovatively employs advanced clothing technology while maintaining aesthetic quality. Four lines were released here in the country—Stretch Selvedge Slim Fit Jeans and Miracle Air Skinny Fit Jeans for the guys; and Ultra Stretch Jeans and Smart Shape Jeans for the girls. Allow me, however, to go into detail on the guys’ styles, as those were what I was shopping for anyway.
The Stretch Selvedge Slim Fit Jeans are described by UNIQLO as:
A man’s jeans, the Stretch Selvedge Slim Fit Jeans is made of high-quality Kaihara denim materials that ensure comfort in tight and slim fit. It has elaborated details; its button, rivet and stiches match the color of the jeans which will surely go well with any casual or dress top.
On the other hand, the Miracle Air Skinny Fit Jeans’ description goes:
Miracle Air Skinny Fit Jeans is incredibly soft and is about 20% lighter than any regular jeans. UNIQLO uses a special yarn developed by Toray and Kaihara’s advanced technology. Miracle Air Skinny Fit Jeans is very flexible and has a two-way stretch functionality. It also features various hues and a more subtle texture in washed-finish and ultra-slim silhouette.
Although their selvedge jeans are ultra-trendy, I gravitated towards the skinny ones, foremost because of the fit—tighter jeans look better on me. Plus, another important feature that I like is its lightness, which is important for a pair of traveling jeans because they must be easy to pack and mustn’t take too much luggage space.
Most importantly, I love how these jeans are so comfortable. I’m wearing my pair right now, and despite walking around all day, I didn’t feel burdened wearing them.
