Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia, being an oil and gas town, doesn’t offer a wide selection of reputable hotels. Luckily though, Pullman Miri Waterfront—which majestically towers by the Miri River—opened its doors a year ago, so on my last trip across Borneo, I made sure that I stay there and check it out myself.
Pullman Miri Waterfront is located in Miri Waterfront Commercial Centre, a sprawling mixed-use development near the center of town. As mentioned, it stands by the Miri River, and the view it enjoys extends to the South China Sea. By way of transportation, Uber and Grab are thankfully plentiful and inexpensive in the area, making the hotel accessible to most parts of the city, its airport, and its outskirts.
The landmark hotel holds the distinction of being the tallest building in the city, and it’s only fitting for it to have a grand lobby. Truth be told, I was expecting a less fancy yet still upscale hotel, but the spacious, modern lobby honestly blew me away.
Following the snazzy appeal of the lobby was the room, the design of which I liked a lot—it looked like one of those trendy rooms you’d typically admire in magazines. And the gorgeous view of the river made things better than they already were.
Clearly conceived with today’s business and leisure travelers in mind, the room had all the necessary features and amenities—from the cozy Pullman signature bed to the handsome executive desk. The immaculate bathroom, meanwhile, had a full-sized tub and shower with a view.
I had my breakfasts at Pullman Kitchen, the hotel’s elegant all-day restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. The morning selection was comprised of tasty Western, Asian, and Malaysian dishes. By the way, the said restaurant also offers one of the most affordable lunch and dinner buffets I’ve ever seen in a five-star hotel.
Since I spent a lot of time luxuriating in the hotel, I was able to check out its facilities, like its fitness center and its infinity pool, which trust me, looked lovely during sunset.
