With its iconic sail-shape architecture, Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit is a captivating landmark that nobody can miss in the Asoke area. Until recently, I had always been curious about the hotel—yet by stroke of luck, I had the chance to stay there, and it was one of my most memorable stays in Bangkok.
Located along one of Bangkok’s major thoroughfares, Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit is ideally located for those who want the action of Asoke and Sukhumvit Road. Just across the hotel is the popular shopping center Terminal 21, while a few blocks away is the rowdy nightlife scene at Sukhumvit Soi 11.
Getting elsewhere—like to the shopping districts of Siam and Ratchaprasong—is easy, for the the BTS Asok Station and the MRT Sukhumvit Station are merely a few minutes by foot. One stop away by MRT, meanwhile, is the Makkasan Airport Rail Link, which connects the city to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Taxis and Uber cars ply the area nonstop, too.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Housed in a sail-shaped architectural landmark, Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit is ranked among the city’s most luxurious hotels, and upon arriving, we attested to this. Its style, as exemplified by its interiors and its high-ceiling grand lobby, successfully marries contemporary elements into classic aesthetics, making it easy on the eyes and easy to like.
ROOMS
Set in an attractive neutral palette mixed with some shades of red, our Deluxe Executive Room was elegantly yet minimally decorated. It was spacious by our standards, and the view of the city from the 28th floor was more than we could ask for.
Clearly conceived with today’s business and leisure travelers in mind, it had all the necessary features and amenities—from the cozy Pullman signature bed to the handsome executive desk. The immaculate bathroom, meanwhile, had a full-sized tub and bath amenities by C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries.
FACILITIES
Aside from perks like free laundry, staying in a Deluxe Executive Room meant we had access to the Executive Club Lounge, which was one of the nicest we’ve ever been to. Aside from breakfast and all-day refreshments, it serves complimentary afternoon tea and evening cocktails, which we found to be better than some other lounges in terms of selection and quality.
Being a five-star hotel, Pullman Sukhumvit has no shortage of facilities—it has a fitness center, a swimming pool, meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a spa, where we were treated to a relaxing 30-minute jetlag massage.
FOOD AND DRINK
We had breakfast one morning at L’Atelier, the hotel’s international restaurant, and we were spoilt for choice—there were Western, Asian, and Thai selections. Overall, we liked the food.
SERVICE
We particularly loved the service at the Executive Club Lounge because the staff there were attentive, friendly, and willing to strike random conversations—we felt well taken care of. But that’s not to say that the service of the other staff was unsatisfactory; all the staff we encountered were courteous and efficient.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Understandably, Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit is one of the pricier options in the city. But given the quality of rooms, the facilities and amenities, and the level of service, it’s definitely worth the splurge.
