We were longing for a quick break from traveling, since at the time, we had just completed back-to-back trips. Clearly, we were short on funds, so anything away from the chaos in the more congested parts of Metro Manila was welcome. We thought about having a staycation at Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia, and it turned out to be a great choice. Read more…
The location of Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia is perfect for both business and leisure travelers. It sits right within the SM Mall of Asia complex, situated near to not only the mall itself but also SMX Convention Center Manila, the SM Mall of Asia Arena, and the Sunset Strip. A few minutes away, meanwhile, are City of Dreams Manila, Solaire Resort & Casino, Resorts World Manila, and the four Manila airport terminals. Accessibility is, of course, never a problem as the SM Mall of Asia is itself a transport hub, and plenty taxis and Uber cars ply the area.
Microtel by Wyndham is the pioneer of the select-service or no-frills hotel concept in the Philippines, providing “consistently clean, comfortable, and secure accommodations at value rates.” It follows the international hospitality standards set by the Wyndham Hotel Group, which has more than 7,600 hotels worldwide and is behind such brands as Days Hotel and Ramada. Today, there are 13 Microtel by Wyndham in the Philippines, including the one at Mall of Asia.
Although the hotel’s location is its primary selling point, the rooms are also something to rave about. Compared to hotels of the same category, their Queen Double Room is undoubtedly more spacious. Plus, it has the option of having a splendid view of the famous Manila Bay sunset.
Designed minimally and painted in relaxing colors, the room ensures a good rest after a tiring day out exploring. It features two queen-sized Dream Well beds, which consists of a plush-top mattress pad with fitted bed skirt, a high quality 200-thread count white and khaki-piped linens with triple sheeting, a down-like blanket, a decorative top sheet and bed scarf, and high-quality fluffy pillows. These chiropractor-approved beds may comfortably sleep a family with kids.
Completing the conveniences offered by the room are a lounge bed by the window, dresser, minibar, closet, safety deposit box, and LED TV. The spotless bathroom, meanwhile, is supplied well with towels and bath amenities. And at the hallways of certain floors are a hot and cold water dispenser and an ice machine, which we thought were cool and unique.
Breakfast is offered at Millie’s Restaurant at the hotel’s lobby. We were spoiled with a bountiful buffet of classic Filipino food, which we missed after traveling a lot abroad.
We also had time to use the hotel’s pool, which is not quite as big as other hotels but still worth checking out for its striking view of Manila Bay and its sunset.
Although Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia is listed as an economy, no-frills hotel, its commendable rooms, facilities, service, dining, and location collectively make it deserving of a higher classification. And what we find really attractive about this hotel is its price point—it’s among the most value-for-money choices in the area.
