My last trip to Indonesia ended with a stop in Jakarta. Having gone around the city a few times already, there honestly wasn’t much in my agenda, so I chose a hotel that I was actually staying in. Among the sensibly-priced choices, I chose Mercure Jakarta Cikini, a brand new hotel with a convenient location in the city’s downtown.
Mercure Jakarta Cikini is in a prime location. The train and airport bus station in Gambir is a short ride away, and the central business district in Thamrin—where the Grand Indonesia Shopping Town is situated—is likewise easy to reach.
Part of the AccorHotels portfolio along with Sofitel and Novotel, among others, Mercure carries the motto “in harmony with people and places.” Its properties are non-standardized, meaning each is customized with a distinct character that is rooted in the local community. What’s common for all Mercure hotels though are the high hospitality standards they follow.
Amid the rain and slight traffic, I came into the hotel after my train from Bandung was delayed for about two hours. By then I was already exhausted, so I was thankful that the friendly front staff handed me my keys swiftly.
I was billeted in a Privilege Room. I later asked how it was an upgrade from the Superior Room, and I was told that it was marginally larger in terms of size and it came with a slew of extra amenities like an espresso machine, daily afternoon tea, free minibar, and a late checkout benefit. In all respects, the room was fresh and modern, and I loved its vibrant color scheme, as well as its local inspiration.
As a room in an upper midscale hotel, it came with the basic necessities plus more—a comfortable bed, an LED TV, electronic safe, numerous power points, and a desk, among others. The bathroom was spotless, and it came equipped with an enjoyable power shower.
Since I came out only a few hours a day in Jakarta, I was able to explore the hotel’s cuisine through its De’Kafe Restaurant, as well as its room service offerings. Since I had already been traveling across Indonesia for quite some time already by then, I chose mostly its Western dishes, and believe me, I was impressed by how they executed them.
I particularly enjoyed the Caesar Salad, which I ended up ordering over three days. I likewise loved the salmon teriyaki, which was served in a bento box.
I also had the chance to try out the afternoon tea, which was complimentary with my room, at the poolside bar.
In terms of facilities, the hotel offers a fitness center and an Instagrammable rooftop pool.
