The good thing about the renowned AccorHotels chain is that it has a number of hotels and resorts in Bali and the rest of Indonesia to suit the budget of many a traveler. On my last trip, I opted for a centrally-located yet still budget-friendly hotel that has all the features and amenities of a higher-end resort. I came across Mercure Bali Legian online, and I was surprised by not only how nice and stylish a hotel it is but also how affordable its room prices are. Read more…
LOCATION
Mercure Bali Legian is conveniently situated along Jalan Legian, one of the most happening places in all of Bali—although the hotel maintains a safe distance from the area’s rowdy bars and clubs. Within minutes of walking are the beaches of both Legian and Kuta, as well as a host of restaurants, shops, and convenience stores. Accessibility is also among the resort’s advantages, for taxis and Uber cars ply the area nonstop.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Part of the AccorHotels portfolio, Mercure is composed by a network of upwards 750 hotels in 51 countries, especially in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. With the motto “in harmony with people and places,” Mercure properties are non-standardized; meaning each is customized with a distinct character that suits the locale. It can be expected, however, for all Mercure hotels to maintain the same high-quality standards in hospitality.
The newly-built Mercure Bali Legian, though classified as a hotel, maintains a resort feel—most of its public areas are open spaces, and it has two swimming pools. The charm of Bali is stylishly reflected both subtly and evidently in the hotel’s architecture, interiors, and rooms.
ROOMS
I was luckily afforded one of its bigger Deluxe King with Plunge Pool rooms, despite going on high season. According to the hotel, the rooms of its kind are the guests’ favorite and thus the first ones to be fully booked. It was easy to understand why.
The room did not evoke the feel of a traditional Balinese resort; instead, the classy decor, the walls awash in relaxing colors, and the elegant furnishings collectively rendered a modern and chic interpretation of the locale. And seeing the pool outside was enough a reminder that I was in Bali, an island known for its impressive resorts.
Inside the room were a host of conveniences that rival higher-end resorts, starting with the comfortable king bed lined with crisp sheets and a cozy duvet. Meanwhile, its bathroom, supplied with set of towels and eco-friendly amenities, still looked spanking new.
FACILITIES
The hotel has a fitness center, as well as an activity center for children. What its guests enjoy most though are, of course, its two outdoor pools, one of which is uniquely and attractively positioned on the third floor.
WELLNESS
I had a most relaxing afternoon at the hotel’s Lavare Spa, which is modernly styled to match the hotel and its rooms. I was treated to an authentic Balinese massage, and the therapist assigned to me, clearly adept at her craft, lulled me into sleep with her soothing strokes and maneuvers.
FOOD AND DRINK
Ancak Restaurant & Lounge serves a modest breakfast spread, consisting of Western and Indonesian fare. I loved their mee goreng (fried noodles) that I paired with sambal.
During lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers an ala carte menu of mostly Indonesian and Balinese specials. What I liked most was their nasi campur Bali, a smorgasbord of tasty Indonesian fare like satay and sambal udang (prawns in sambal).
SERVICE
Mercure promises “enthusiastic and attentive hotel staff” across its hotels. The people of Mercure Bali Legian are no exception; they deliver service amid warm smiles.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Checking the rates for this stylish hotel, I was surprised how affordable they are, especially on low season. Frankly, of all the hotels I’ve encountered, Mercure Bali Legian offers the lowest prices for a room with a plunge pool.
