After successful runs in New York, Seoul, Paris, and Las Vegas, the Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. exhibition lands in Singapore, housed at the Science Center Singapore (SCS). It’s the exhibit’s Southeast Asian debut, so it’s pretty much of a huge deal. Being the fan of the movies that I am, I trooped to SCS in Jurong East to check it out.
S.T.A.T.I.O.N. stands for “Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operations Network.” The exhibition is basically a recruitment and training facility for future Avengers—and anyone who willingly visits can be one. The Singapore edition of the exhibition spans 2,000 square meters, making it the largest and most interactive yet. The displays and interactive exhibits were carefully selected from the previous four editions, and they developed an impressive supplemental app that everyone must have in their own device or in a rented one.
So what’s the S.T.A.T.I.O.N. experience like? Here’s an overview from the material I was handed:
Visitors will embark on an immersive adventure into the world of their favorite superheroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Vision, Falcon and Ant-Man. They will enter as recruits and will be roped into the Avengers’ extensive combat support network, set within the high tech environment of the Avengers’ training facility. Original props, costumes, holograms and interactive activity stations will be featured throughout the exhibition.
Highlights include the High Performance Test Area where visitors compare their reflexes with Captain America’s, the Hulkbuster Experience where visitors test their flight skills in Iron Man’s suit through augmented reality, and the Mjölnir Simulation where visitors measure their worthiness against Thor who wields the mighty hammer.
Visitors will have access to intelligence files, classified studies and experiments that explore the history and scientific origins of the Avengers. Blockbuster Marvel movies will also be screened at the S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Theatre to enhance the entire visitor experience.
To be honest, despite the quite hefty admission fee, I wasn’t expecting much, especially that it is being marketed as an “exhibition.” But it surprisingly blew me away, given how interactive and high-tech it was.. And being an exhibit officially licensed by Marvel, the characters were there—Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill recorded a video introduction for the exhibit—and the realistic displays, information, and footage were all based on the movies. It’s sure to enthrall each fan of the movie franchise and comic books.
The Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. at Science Center Singapore runs until March 5, 2017. Admission costs 30 SGD (~1035 PHP) for adults and 22 SGD (~760 PHP) for children aged 3-12, with discounts available for Singaporeans and permanent residents. Regular tickets may be bought at a discount from Klook on its website, or its iOS and Android apps for 24 SGD (~830 PHP). For exhibition hours and more information, check out this link.
How to get there: Take the MRT to Jurong East Station (NS1/EW24). From there, a five-minute walk along a path that cuts through Jurong East Central will lead to Science Center Singapore. Alternatively, buses 66, 178, 198, and 335 stop right outside SCS; it is two stops or three minutes away from the bus interchange outside Jurong East MRT Station.
