Silom is one of Bangkok’s most well-known as a nightlife hotspots. Amid the action lies Le Méridien Bangkok, one of the most stylish hotels in the area and the rest of the city. Being a fan of the Le Méridien brand, I was eager to stay there, and let’s just say the hotel didn’t let me down.
LOCATION
Le Méridien Bangkok is located near the famous nightlife district of Silom, a few minutes by foot from the rowdy Patpong Night Market. The Sam Yan MRT Station and the Sala Daeng BTS Station are both nearby, making access to Bangkok’s places of interest convenient and affordable. Bangkok’s two airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, meanwhile, are easily reachable by taxis and Uber cars that ply the area nonstop.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Le Méridien is now part of Marriott International, alongside esteemed brands like the W, St. Regis, Westin, and Sheraton. The style of its luxury and upscale properties worldwide is a blend of contemporary culture and European heritage that “creates a culturally refined, meaningful, and stimulating atmosphere.”
With subtle hints of local influences here and there, Le Méridien Bangkok’s style is mostly edgy and contemporary. Walking across its stark, stylish lobby felt like a glitzy experience in itself, and the place seemed even fancier with Franco-pop tracks by Nouvelle Vague piped in—a standard in Le Méridien hotels worldwide.
ROOMS
Since the hotel was fully committed the day I was staying there, I was luckily upgraded to a Circular Room located on the 22nd floor and thus offering gorgeous views of the city. A contrast from the lobby, the room, although still modern, felt more local—adorning the room were native prints and décor, complemented by soothing neutral tones and faux wood surfaces.
As its name suggests, my Circular Room had a quirky round bed, which I found to be comfortable to sleep on despite the shape. It also had a cozy couch, a working desk with an ergonomic chair, a minibar with coffee and tea making facility, an LCD TV, and a touchscreen IP phone, among others. The spotless bathroom, on the other hand, had a tub and fragrant bath amenities.
FACILITIES
Offered by the hotel are a state-of-the-art fitness center, a spa, a business center, six meeting and event spaces, and a nice swimming pool.
FOOD AND DRINK
I had breakfast at Latest Recipe, which had an extensive morning spread of Western, Asian, and Thai items. Their locally-inspired omelet is a must-try.
SERVICE
All the staff I interacted with were friendly and efficient, especially those from the concierge who gave me directions and dining recommendations with a smile.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Surprisingly, rates at Le Méridien Bangkok are affordable, despite the hotel being five-star. The cost of the stay is reasonable too, with the quality of its rooms, features, and amenities, as well as its level of service. SPG members get preferential rates on top of extra perks when booking direct through the hotel’s website or spg.com.
