La dolce vita in Italian means life of self-indulgence. As a purveyor of sophistication, the St. Regis Bangkok knows the good life all too well. Too well that they have a new tradition, the La Dolce Vita High Tea, which pays homage to the English affair, albeit with an Italian twist. Read more…
The La Dolce Vita High Tea is presented by the St. Regis Bangkok in an apt collaboration with Thailand’s Prestige, “the lifestyle magazine of choice for the affluent and influential.” With these two hand-in-hand, the experience is expectedly classy—or hi-so (high society) as the millennials of Bangkok would put it.
The experience commenced as we were seated at the St. Regis Bar, the hotel’s elegant and iconic lobby lounge. The refined ambiance is driven by high ceilings, wooden floors, and a palette of warm colors, then amplified by a panoramic view of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
Then we were made to pick from a great selection of TWG teas, of which some were exclusive for the St. Regis. I went for the familiar Silver Moon, a “TWG blend of green teas accented with a grand berry and vanilla bouquet.”
After our tea orders were taken and served, the three-tier tower of afternoon tea treats was served. Although it had the traditional sweets, scones, and savories, it came with a separate plate of bruschetta, which drove the point that it was truly Italian-themed.
The tea’s highlights include the bombolini filled with passion fruit curd, the lavender honey panna cotta edible flowers, and the crisp cannoli Frangelico scented cream. However, the classic scones, the crunchy biscotti, and the heavenly tiramisu weren’t to be missed either.
As a fine ending to teatime, we were served with bottles of Mini Moet & Chandon, surprisingly with golden funnels. Upon a quick search online, the funnels were debuted by Moet & Chandon this year at the Cheltenham Festival in the United Kingdom as a novel way to drink their Champagne off the small bottles directly. By the way, these can be brought home as a souvenir.
