Luang Prabang in Laos is a charming quaint town—its tourist numbers aren’t super high, and its humble town center, lined by cafes, restaurants, and a night market, is totally walkable. Given it really isn’t as “happening” as other tourist towns like Chiang Mai, most of its hotels are small boutique ones. We recently came to the Luang Prabang for the first time and chose Kiridara Luang Prabang from a shortlist of top-rated boutique hotels, and we were glad we did.
Kiridara Luang Prabang is a bit detached from all the action in the town center—it’s maybe a five to ten minute ride away, though fortunately, the hotel provides complimentary bike rentals, as well as shuttle service, which is on-demand during the daytime and scheduled at night. The airport is maybe 15-20 minutes away, and the hotel can easily arrange a pickup and drop-off.
With a representative arranged to greet us at the airport, we arrived at the hotel and immediately noticed how architecturally gorgeous and local it looked—we were told the owner is a sought-after architect in Luang Prabang. And it obviously was a boutique property—the reception was just a small desk, manned by friendly and smiling staff.
Since our room was not ready for our early arrival, we ventured into the town in the meantime, and as we returned, we were escorted to our Premier Room. We’ve grown accustomed to more cookie-cutter chain hotels, so we appreciated the room’s locally-inspired charm and uniqueness. Plus, the room was really spacious.
The room was well-appointed, honestly exceeding our expectations for a boutique hotel in Laos. The bed was luxuriously cozy, and the bath area was immaculate.
The hotel only has one restaurant called Chef’s Table Luang Prabang. We had our breakfasts there, and on offer was a modest-yet=tasty spread of Western and Asian dishes.
It was also in the same restaurant where we were treated to a casual dinner that allowed us to discover Lao cuisine. Unfortunately, I failed to note the names of the dishes, but I can assure that we liked them for the most part.
Although we spent most of our time touring the locale, we chose to relax on our last day at the hotel, hanging out by the its beautiful pool deck, which offered impressive views.
