Of the many resorts I’ve been to, only few have immensely impressed me. One of them is the luxurious JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, which unlike many of the resorts I’ve stayed at, beautifully infused the locale into its every aspect.
LOCATION
The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa is nestled in one of the most exclusive locations in Phuket, Mai Khao Beach, which it shares with only a handful of resorts. The area is only 15 minutes away by car from the airport, compared to other places that are maybe 40-60 minutes away.
STYLE/CHARACTER
Honestly, I was expecting a resort that was more contemporary, but I was pleasantly surprised the moment I stepped out of the limousine that took me from the airport. It had a rich character—one that’s unmistakably Thai.
These inspiring touches that reflect the locale differentiated the resort from the others, making it among the finest in Phuket. After all, JW Marriott as a brand is all for weaving the locale into their hotels and resorts to provide an authentic experience.
ROOMS
Their spacious rooms are as elaborate, going for a classic luxury feel unlike today’s modern hotels. The room that was assigned to us had chic locally-inspired décor that tastefully complemented the terracotta flooring and touches of natural wood.
Of course, being that it is in a five-star luxury resort, our room had all the conveniences necessary for a spectacular holiday, including the huge comfortable bedding. The bathroom, meanwhile, was supplied with fragrant amenities by Aromatherapy Associates.
FACILITIES
The resort boasts of features and facilities that are worthy to be written about—from four its gorgeous swimming pools to its well-kept gardens. In addition to these are a health club, a spa, meeting facilities, and resort activities, such as kayaking, sailing, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
THE BEACH
Mai Khao has a long stretch of attractive beach that was thankfully quiet when we were there. It did help that, again, the area is exclusive with only a few resorts.
FOOD AND DRINK
Marriott Café, the resort’s all-day international restaurant, serves up an extensive breakfast spread of Western, Asian, and Thai fare that I found truly enjoyable.
Aside from Marriott Cafe, the resort has three other restaurants, a steakhouse, and a deli. We were able to try Kabuki, its Japanese restaurant, and Andaman Grill, its steakhouse.
SERVICE
Thoughtful service was among the aspects that I loved about the resort. Efficient and friendly staff were at hand to provide my needs from the room to transfers.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Granted that the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa is classified as five-star luxury, nightly rates can be costly. But the well-kept rooms, the level of service, the quality of facilities, the excellent dining, and the resort’s overall appeal, make it worth the splurge.
