Last month, I flew from Taipei to Medan and Surabaya to Manila, transiting both ways in Singapore. I recalled seeing a promo with Jetstar that entitles transit passengers to a 20 SGD (~690 PHP) voucher for use at selected outlets in Changi Airport. So when the opportunity presented itself, I made sure I took advantage of the offer.
HOW I QUALIFIED
The rules say that to qualify, “passengers must be on transit in Changi Airport on both legs of their journey, which means that Singapore is neither the point of origin nor the end destination.” My ticket was as follows (all flights are in one itinerary, though more than itinerary or ticket should also be fine):
Since my Taipei-Singapore and Singapore-Medan flights were more than 24 hours apart, making Singapore also my destination, I thought I didn’t qualify. But apparently, the rules state that only “at least one of the two transit duration is less than 24 hours after arriving in Changi Airport.” My Surabaya-Singapore and Singapore-Manila flights were only 1hr55min apart, so that made me qualified for the voucher.
COLLECTING THE VOUCHER
After landing from Surabaya, I immediately looked for the Changi Recommends counter located in Terminal 1, getting directions from the innovative iChangi app. It wasn’t too far from my gate, and I found it near the central plaza of the terminal.
I gave the staff my passport and showed her my Jetstar itinerary from my phone. She immediately entered my details and handed me the voucher after maybe three minutes.
REDEEMING THE VOUCHER
The voucher can only be redeemed at certain outlets. Unfortunately, it was already past midnight when I arrived at the airport, so some of them were closed. I could’ve redeemed it for an hour’s access at Plaza Premium Lounge, but I decided against it because I still wasn’t done with my Christmas shopping.
Good thing, Wines & Spirits by DFS, which was open at the time, was among the shops I can redeem the voucher, so I figured that I’d just bring home a bottle of liquor for the holiday festivities. I ended up getting a one-liter bottle of Bacardi Black, paying only 7 SGD (~242 PHP) after the 20 SGD was deducted.
