Towards the end of last year, I flew Jetstar Asia from Manila to Bangkok and back, both ways via Singapore. Although there was an option to fly direct, going on connecting flights meant I was able to transit through and thoroughly explore the world-class Changi Airport, experience the airline’s awesome aircraft and service, and savor the inflight menu. As a lover of airline food, it was my pleasure, of course, to try Jetstar Asia’s three hot meals onboard. Read more…
Jetstar Asia allows its passengers to pre-book their meals at the time of flight booking at a discount. Pre-booked meals come with a bottle of water, a hot beverage, and a KitKat. Passengers may book a meal in any or all of their flights in their booking; however, only light meals are offered for shorter flights in the Jetstar Asia network, such as Singapore-Kuala Lumpur.
Aside from the savings, pre-booking assures that a meal will be available for the passenger and that those who’ve already purchased a meal gets to pick their choice first and be served first.
Anyway, since I was flying four flights with Jetstar, I made sure I was trying all three of their meat dishes on offer. Note that I flew December 2014, so these were the meals available then.
CHICKEN RICE
Steamed fragrant rice with fried onions, roasted chicken and oriental vegetable, served with chilli sauce
The chicken was tender and moist, and the rice was tasty. Although the vegetables were a little overcooked, I enjoyed it because all-in-all it was a delicious dish.
MEDITERRANEAN CHICKEN
Braised chicken w/ semi dried tomatoes and black olives, served with herbed mashed potatoes and broccoli
The Mediterranean chicken was good, but what surprised me was the mashed potatoes. Although the dish was cooked at an airplane galley oven, I was surprised how moist it was!
ROTI PARATHA W/ CHICKEN
Tender chicken curry and roti paratha, served with omelet triangle garnished with masala
My favorite among the three because it was the tastiest. The chicken curry was mild and not overpowering, while the roti was thankfully cooked right, like I had it at an Indian eatery.
Jetstar Asia flies direct from Manila to Singapore up to 4x daily and Osaka 4x weekly.
