In this age of technology, airlines strive to one up each other with their cutting-edge inflight entertainment offerings. But Jetstar Asia, ranked among the World’s Best Low Cost Airlines by SKYTRAX in 2016, is encouraging a seemingly forgotten way to pass the time up in the air and down in the ground—reading books. No, not e-books but good ol’ printed books.
In partnership with the National Reading Movement of Singapore, Jetstar Asia launched the Big Book Swap, the “world’s highest book club.” Through it, books are readily accessible to passengers at no cost:
Passengers are invited to enjoy their book inflight and on holiday, and simply return it to the seat pocket during their return Jetstar flight for the next passenger en-route to their holiday destination. Passengers wanting to contribute their own books to the flying book club can also get a Book Swap sticker from the Jetstar crew.
To kick off the exciting and worthwhile project, on July 30, 2016, which is Singapore’s inaugural National Reading Day, 500 books were handed out to passengers of selected Jetstar Asia flights departing from Changi Airport Terminal 1. The books were donated by the National Library Board (NLB), MPH Bookstores, Select Books, Book Point, and Write Editions.
Jetstar Asia’s Big Book Swap happens until August 31, 2016, so be sure to try it out in one of the airline’s flights from Manila to Singapore and Osaka.
