The Grand Hyatt Bangkok Erawan has got to be one of the finest hotels in all of Bangkok, and I love every aspect of it. However, in my many trips to Bangkok, there are those that do not warrant a luxury hotel—ones where I’d be spending most of the day (and night) out. Well, Hyatt just opened a more affordable option, Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit, which retains most of the comforts of a Hyatt hotel. I recently tried it out.
Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is situated along Sukhumvit Soi 24. Its prime, tourist-friendly location enjoys proximity to two BTS stations (Asok and Phrom Phong), one MRT station (Sukhumvit), and major shopping malls near these metro stations, such as Terminal 21, EmQuartier, and Emporium. With the abundance of Grab in Bangkok, it’s easy to hail a car from the hotel and access the rest of the city.
Carrying the slogan “select service for the most selective,” Hyatt Place hotels are described as “the perfect choice for the very top of the select service category, attracting high-value business and leisure travelers seeking comfort, quality and around-the-clock convenience.” It’s a fairly new concept here in Southeast Asia, where there only are two properties—both in Thailand—under the brand in existence. Elsewhere though, especially the Americas, the brand is much more present that “Hyatt Place hotels account for more of the company’s total footprint than any other brand.”
From Don Mueang International Airport (IATA: DMK), it was a quick drive for us to the hotel, since our driver took the expressways. We were led up upon arrival to the hotel’s stylish sky lobby, where we were swiftly handed our keys by the friendly and nicely-dressed front staff.
I was traveling with my sister, and we were billeted in a Specialty Room, which was actually a spacious corner room. The said room type only comes with a king bed, but upon request, the sofa can be properly set up as a bed—which they did for us.
The room’s design, which I appreciated, was modern, clean, and minimalist. The colors used were neutral and relaxing, and the room looked refreshing when drenched in natural light.
In terms of amenities, the room covered the basics, like a huge LED TV, a small fridge, and a desk, and it also had something luxurious—the Hyatt Grand Bed, which I believe they also use in Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency hotels. The bathroom was somewhat on the small side, but I appreciated the pressure of the shower.
We had breakfast at Gallery Kitchen. I was told that Hyatt Place properties in the United States and Europe only serve a continental breakfast spread, but the one in Bangkok, being in Asia, offers a full buffet of Western, Asian, and Thai dishes.
My sister and I also checked out the hotel’s facilities, including the 24/7 grab and go market, the fitness center, the yoga studio, and the lovely rooftop pool with bar.
In all, the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit seemed like a scaled down Hyatt Regency, but the spirit of Hyatt hospitality was there. And well, the Hyatt Grand Bed was a delight, as always.
