My last trip to Jakarta was mostly spent outdoors—getting reacquainted with the city, picking up from where I left off last time I was there, and spending a full day in Bandung. Knowing I wouldn’t really spend time luxuriating in a hotel room, I opted for a simpler but still quality option—Holiday Inn Express Jakarta Thamrin. I was not disappointed. Read more…
Despite being targeted towards budget-conscious business and leisure travelers, Holiday Inn Express Jakarta Thamrin doesn’t compromise on location. It’s situated well within the city’s central business district, only a few minutes away from Jalan MH Thamrin and popular spots like Monumen Bunderan HI, Plaza Indonesia, and Grand Indonesia. Accessibility is surely not a problem because the hotel is near a TransJarkarta bus stop and a city railway station, and there are numerous taxis and Uber cars available in the area.
Holiday Inn Express is a concept of renowned Intercontinental Hotels Group, which describes it as “the smart choice for travellers who need a simple, engaging hotel to rest, recharge and get a little work done.” A fast-growing brand, it has more than 220,000 rooms in 2,300 hotels globally.
Like the one I’ve stayed at in Bangkok, the hotel does away with some services, while keeping those that matter. Despite this, however, that doesn’t mean that the staff do not give spectacular, friendly service because they saw to it that I had the best possible stay at the hotel.
The chic room features all the traveler essentials: a comfortable queen bed with prime linens and a choice of soft and firm pillows, an ergonomic desk with a lamp and universal power points, a 32” LED TV, a minibar, coffee and tea making facility, closet space, an electronic safe, and of course, complimentary wireless internet. The spotless bathroom, meanwhile, has a powerful shower with massage function, complemented by a suite of towels and basic bath amenities.
The hotel uniquely employs two breakfast concepts: Express Start and Grab & Go. With the former, guests may choose from a modest spread and dine at the cafeteria-like Great Room, while with the latter, they may quickly pick their breakfast items from a counter.
While Holiday Inn Express Jakarta Thamrin is considered a limited service hotel, it has carefully-selected facilities: a fitness room, Mac internet stations, a pay and go counter with snacks and essentials, a meeting room, and a self-service laundry and ironing room.
Holiday Inn Express Jakarta Thamrin lives up to its promise of providing quality accommodation in a central location at an affordable price. Sure, I had to forgo facilities and services I’d expect from an upscale hotel, but since I was out most of the day anyway, it was a great choice.
