Normally, I wouldn’t even dare consider traveling to Bandung on a weekend, since it can be hectic with people from Jakarta and nearby cities coming in for quick vacations. However, it was the middle of Ramadan for our Muslim brethren, so it wasn’t much of a traveling season for Indonesia. I thus ventured out to the city and picked Holiday Inn Bandung Pasteur, a family hotel in Bandung that turned out to be a solid choice.
Holiday Inn Bandung Pasteur is situated near the tollway that links Jakarta with Bandung, so it’s convenient for those who are taking the minibus or driving between the two cities. One of the city’s most famous shopping malls, Paris van Java, is a short ride away, while the rest of Bandung’s many places of interest (especially the factory outlets or FOs) are easily accessible, thanks to cars and ojeks (motorcycles) that can be hired with apps Grab and Go-Jek. The train station and airport of Bandung aren’t far away either, since both are located within the city.
As the minibus I rode from Jakarta stopped right outside the hotel, I was welcomed into a bright and airy lobby. My check-in was handled by a friendly front staff, and I was told that my room was located in the executive wing.
My Executive Room was larger than the typical room at a Holiday Inn, and it also did feel more upscale. I liked how it was laid out and how it was visually easy on the eyes, using a slew of neutral and muted colors and patterns.
The room came with a suite of features expected of an upscale hotel, including comfortable twin beds with both firm and soft pillows, a work desk, a lounging chair with side table, an LED TV, minibar with coffee and tea making facility, ample closet space, and for us millennials, plenty of power points, among others. The bathroom was spotless, and it had all the necessary bath amenities.
Although it was Ramadan, the 4 star hotel in Bandung tried its best to cater to us non-Muslims, serving meals discreetly within the fasting hours. I had my breakfasts at Ambassador Restaurant, which was open all day. The breakfast spread had a number of both Western and local dishes that were good and filling.
I also had my lunches and dinners there, and I especially liked its cheeseburger (which had an egg) and its Caesar salad.
When I wasn’t out sightseeing, I enjoyed the hotel’s facilities, including its two swimming pools—one of which is exclusive for Executive Wing guests—and its fitness center.
In all, it was a great stay, especially considering how unbelievably affordable my room was. I do recommend it for holidaymakers looking for the best hotel deal in Bandung.
