If there’s one thing that I learned on my recent trip to India, it’s that accommodations should be planned properly. See, unlike most of Southeast Asia, options in India can either be good but expensive or cheap but bad—and trust me on this, as I was faced with the most disgusting hotel room in New Delhi. Luckily, in Jaipur, I found a gem, Four Points by Sheraton Jaipur, City Square, where I had a good quality room at an affordable price.
Four Points by Sheraton Jaipur, City Square is just a short ride away from the airport. The city center can also be reached within a few minutes, thanks to the abundance of Uber and Ola cars that may be hired from the hotel. Jaipur’s places of interest like the Pink City, the Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace may also be reached by Uber and Ola, though a hired car or an arranged tour is more appropriate.
The select-service Four Points by Sheraton is now under the Marriott International portfolio, which it shares with well-loved brands like the W, the St. Regis, Westin, Le Meridien, and Aloft. With the mantra “Travel Reinvented,” the brand provides its guests with “Simple Pleasures”—“everything you need, plus the style and extras you love.”
I got into the hotel late into the night after a four-hour flight from Bangkok. As expected of a Four Points property, everything starting from the lobby was modern and visually appealing.
Since it was quite late already, I headed to my room once I was handed my keys. The room was exactly how I expected it—clean, spacious, inviting, and most of all, air-conditioned. Sure, it wasn’t luxurious by any means, but for a room I only intended to stay in after days of touring, it was definitely more than sufficient.
Clearly conceived with today’s travelers in mind, it came with everything I needed. As the room description goes:
No matter where you stay in our hotel, you’ll enjoy comfortable accommodations and convenient amenities like LCD flat screen TVs and High Speed Internet Access. Relax in modern furnishings, including a Four Points by Sheraton Four Comfort Bed, and take advantage of free extras, like breakfast, bottled water, and daily newspapers.
I had my breakfasts at The Eatery, the restaurant’s relaxed all-day dining restaurant. The spread consisted of a mostly Indian selection (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian), but having Indian food on my other squares, I preferred to eat the Western fare.
It was also where I had my lunch and dinner, and trust me, I was astonished how its chefs whipped up the best Indian food I had during the trip. I’m not exaggerating when I say that everything I had made me realize that the Indian food I had been having elsewhere in the world paled in comparison. If I had to pick, my favorites were the Lamb Rogan Josh and the Chicken Biryani.
The hotel boasts of a swimming pool and a fitness center—but with so much to see and do in the enchanting “Pink City,” I was unable to use these.
