I’ve been to Irish pubs elsewhere, but they’re understandably more about the drinking. But when I was invited to The Drunken Leprechaun Irish Pub at the Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok Sukhumvit 15, I was assured that it’s not only a pub but a restaurant that serves good food as well. And so I can focus on the food, I chose to go during lunchtime.
THE RESTAURANT
Interiors set in dark wood, a TV that’s tuned into sports, and a bar that has several beers on tap—The Drunken Leprechaun Irish Pub is as authentic as it gets. Adding to the experience are its “little people” dressed like leprechauns who, aside from serving their patrons, like to oblige them for photo ops.
Its location, near one end of Sukhumvit Soi 15, is ideal, since it’s located right at the smack of the nightly action. Just a few minutes by foot are the rowdier bars and clubs of Sukhumvit Soi 11, so the pub’s definitely great for pre-gaming (it closes at midnight).
With the pub’s extensive food menu and opening time of 10:00 AM though, people may come in all day just to eat and try out its Irish dishes, which aren’t common in Bangkok.
THE MENU
The menu’s mostly comfort food and bar chow, with a handful of Irish dishes like Irish stew, bangers and mash, and Irish-style black pudding. There’s an all-day breakfast selection great for a post-drinking binge, and as is the norm in many international restaurants in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand, there’s a section of Thai food.
Since it’s an Irish pub after all, there’s an extensive beer list—both from the tap and the bottle. Aside from the Irish favorites Guinness and Kilkenny, there are a number of Thai and Asian beers. The Drunken Leprechaun participates in the Best Brews program of Four Points by Sheraton; thus it highlights the local Singha Beer.
OUR FAVORITES
First, I tried the Beef & Guinness Pie, which as the name suggests is filled with chunks of Guinness-marinated beef, as well as veggies and potatoes. I liked how its texture wasn’t mushy and how the filling was so flavorful.
I also liked The Drunken Leprechaun Bangers & Mash, composed of a sausage sitting on top of mashed potatoes and caramelized onions then smothered with an Irish gravy. The sausage was to die for!
VALUE FOR MONEY
With entrees averaging only around 300 THB and the alcohol reasonably priced, The Drunken Leprechaun is good value for money. Even better, the pub has a number of promos and specials—aside from its happy hour that last four hours—and it gives a discount to all members of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty program.
