Tokyo is one of the most expensive hotel markets in the world, which is understandable, given the cost of wages and real estate in the city. Like all fine hotels in Japan, the Conrad Tokyo charges top dollar for a room, but with its luxuriously appointed rooms, central location, and impeccable service, staying there made me believe that the costs were justified.
With its towering height and iconic design, Conrad Tokyo serves as a landmark in Minato’s bustling business district. It’s within walking distance to two stations, Shidome and Shimbashi, in the dense Tokyo train system, making it accessible to everything the city has to offer. Uber and taxis fares are exorbitant in Tokyo compared to other Asian cities, so thankfully, airport limousine buses going to Narita and Haneda stop right at the hotel’s doorstep.
Conrad Hotels & Resorts, a luxury brand of Hilton Worldwide, goes for personalized service:
Conrad Hotels & Resorts is access to life as you want to live it. A place to experience service and style on your own terms. A place to connect with the world. A place to stay inspired. We offer our guests one-of-a-kind experiences with sophisticated, locally inspired surroundings. Service that’s more than personal, it’s intuitive. And connections to people and places around the corner, and halfway around the world.
With its location, it’s quite apparent that Conrad Tokyo attracts business travelers more, yet with its Conrad 1/3/5 program—which provides travelers with ideas in exploring the city depending on how much time they have—it definitely wants to cater to us leisure travelers too.
Arriving into the hotel’s stark receiving area, I was immediately escorted by one of the amiable and polite staff to the hotel’s Executive Lounge, bypassing the sky lobby, for a more private check-in, since I was staying in an executive room. In no time, I was handed a key to my King Executive Bay View Room, which was only steps away from the lounge.
Staying many nights in hotels, I rarely am extremely wowed by hotel rooms, but my room at the Conrad Tokyo was truly impressive that my jaw dropped. For one, I loved the Japanese-inspired design and sleek furnishings, and I likewise admired the relaxing view of the Royal Hamarikyu Gardens and Tokyo Bay it offered.
As expected of a room at the Conrad, it had everything a business or leisure traveler would need, starting with the luxurious king bed, which I loved. The bathroom, set in marble, was immaculate, and it came with deluxe toiletries by Aromatherapy Associates.
Since, again, I was staying in an Executive Room, I had access to the Executive Lounge, which more or less followed the room’s aesthetic. Warmed by a fireplace, it was a cozy space that also served breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails—the selection and quality of which I thought were above the average even among luxury hotels.
I had breakfast at the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, Cerise, which had an extensive array of Western, Asian, and Japanese dishes on offer. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially how well-prepared and nicely presented they were—though I was expecting no less from a five-star hotel in Japan.
Although I spent most of my time exploring Tokyo—thanks to ideas I got from Conrad 1/3/5—I was still able to check out the hotel’s facilities like its indoor swimming pool and its fitness center.
