I’ve written reviews about Bluewater Sumilon twice already, so I wouldn’t be making one about our trip this year. Seeing that they are celebrating their 12th anniversary, I decided to come up with a list of the 12 reasons why, every year, I come back to my most favorite resort in Cebu.
1. Cuisine worth writing home about. We looked forward to every mealtime, as it was a chance to fill our tummies up with sumptuous food from the resort’s kitchen. Be it Filipino, Asian, or Western, what we’d been served were topnotch. Be sure to try the Adobo Rice!
2. Never-ending activities. Although much of our time in the resort were spent at the beach and the pool, we never ran out of activities to do apart from swimming. Kayaking on the resort’s lagoon, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, and biking were only some of the activities we tried out. And the best news is that these activities are free for staying guests.
3. Well-appointed rooms perfect for a holiday. Having stayed at the best resorts of Asia, I’ve been more discerning with the room I’m sleeping in. Well, Bluewater Sumilon offers rooms that are up to my standards—they are well-appointed and well-maintained.
4. The surrounding blue waters. It wouldn’t have been named Bluewater if its surrounding waters weren’t blue, right? Seriously though, the resort’s clear azure waters are the resort’s primary draw, and these have had us in awe without fail.
5. The gorgeous sandbar. The low tide was our cue to come to the other end of the island and enjoy its gorgeous sandbar. Although its shape has naturally changed over the years, it still is beautiful.
6. Kid-friendly facilities and activities. On my last two visits, I took my little cousin with us, and she surely had a great time! She loved the pool, the beach, and the many activities that are kid-friendly. On our last visit, I saw the resort had installed a new play area, which my cousin enjoyed.
7. The iconic infinity pool. Anyone who stays or visits Bluewater Sumilon must have a photo on its iconic infinity pool, the view of which majestically extends into the vastness of the sea.
8. Affordable nightly rates. Although the resort is indeed exclusive, its room rates are actually affordable—not bad, in other words. They’re good value-for-money too, since most rates include half-board (i.e. breakfast and dinner), as well as a slew of other privileges.
9. The calmness, especially at night. With only a handful of rooms, guests, and staff that populate the island, the resort is very tranquil—especially at night when only the few staying guests occupy the island and the humming of the wind, the waves crashing, and the occasional crickets are only the ones heard.
10. Accessibility from both Cebu and Dumaguete. We had always accessed the resort from Cebu, which is a three-hour drive away, but on our last trip, we continued our road trip to Dumaguete in Negros Oriental, which is actually nearer by driving and a short sea crossing.
11. Service with a heart. Bluewater Sumilon has a mantra called “Amuma,” which signifies its staff’s signature hospitality. In our every visit, we felt this exceptional warmth from all resort staff. Not only did they provide excellent service but they also made us feel at home through and through.
12. Unforgettable experiences. Summing up everything above, our stays at Bluewater Sumilon had been filled with unforgettable experiences. Whenever we were there—and thanks mostly to its wonderful staff—we felt like it was our vacation home in South Cebu.
