I’ve been to Bangkok plenty of times, and usually, I’d find myself staying in the Ratchaprasong or Asoke area, so I could be near the places I frequent. Shaking things up a bit, I decided to stay at the Thonglor area. Friends had told me that the best hotel in the area is Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, and having stayed there a couple of nights, I agree with them.
As mentioned, Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit is located in Thonglor, a few steps away from the BTS station. Thonglor is a haven for street food lovers—the famous Mae Varee mango sticky rice shop is actually in the area. Also, a few blocks away is the hipster commune called The Commons, while a couple of BTS stops away are some of Bangkok’s top shopping destinations—Terminal 21 in Asoke, and EmQuartier and Emporium in Phrom Pong.
Marriott Hotels & Resorts is a globally-recognized chain with more than 500 properties in over 50 countries around the world. With its Travel Brilliantly concept, it has been rolling out innovations that elevate style, design, and technology, constantly evolving for next-generation travelers.
I’ve always felt like the Marriott brand spoke to me well, so I was keen try out Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit.
We arrived at the hotel before lunch, and thankfully, the room was already prepared. Keys were handed right after our stay details were arranged by the friendly front staff.
Our room was in one of the hotel’s higher floors, affording us a sweeping view of the Bangkok skyline, which I’ve always admired. But aside from the view, the room was aesthetically impressive. It was obviously modern, and it had a trendy choice of colors and décor.
In line with Marriott’s Travel Brilliantly mantra, the room was appointed to cater to the needs of millennials. Features included plush Marriott bedding, a large flat screen TV, a sitting area, a mini bar with coffee and tea making facility, high-speed internet, universal power ports by the bedside, and multimedia facilities. The immaculate bathroom, meanwhile, had a nice tub by the window, and it was stocked with fragrant THANN amenities.
We had our breakfasts at 57th Street, and we were amazed by the variety of food it served—there was a great selection of Western, Thai, and Asian items. We found the quality of the food to be excellent and consistent each morning.
One afternoon, we went up to the hotel’s topmost floor where Octave Rooftop Lounge & Bar is. It was packed to the rafters—thanks to its happy hour that coincides with the beautiful sundown seen from its deck.
But my favorite experience during our stay, apart from the room itself, was the Sunday brunch at The District Room & Bar. Sure, it wasn’t one of those big buffets that we were used to back in Manila, but it had the most exquisite selection of food. The promotional poster read:
Start your elevated culinary adventure with endless selections of salads, appetizers, cold cuts and fine cheese paired with delicate wines. Mouthwatering selection of grilled meats, seared Hokkaido scallops and Foie gras cooked to perfection. Enjoy an extensive assortment of premium ocean fare including Normandy and Fine de Claire oysters, Alaskan king crab legs and caviar. Savor delectable District’s signatures such as Norwegian salmon, New Zealand lamb chops, Australian premium steaks from our specially crafted à la carte menu before indulging yourself with a little something sweet from our private dessert room to complete your sumptuous Sunday Brunch experience.
We had a marvelous time stuffing our tummies with almost everything that was on offer—and I did have extra servings of foie gras—while sipping flutes of prosecco and fabulous cocktails (e.g. mimosas). I must note, however, that the experience didn’t come cheap (2500 THB for just the brunch or 3000 THB with an unlimited beverage package), but it was absolutely great value-for-money by the quality and quantity of food and drink.
During our stay, we checked out the hotel’s facilities, including its infinity pool, fitness center, and spa.
