Although one of the Philippines’ major cities with shopping malls left-and-right, Cagayan de Oro unfortunately doesn’t have many good hotels; however, it does have Seda Centrio, which is regarded by locals and visitors alike as one of the best, if not the best, hotels in the city. On a recent visit, I had to make sure that I was staying there.
Seda Centrio, as the name suggests, is situated within Ayala’s Centrio shopping complex, with the hotel entrance being at the side of the mall. Cagayan de Oro’s downtown is a short tricycle ride away, while the shuttle van (LAX Shuttle) going to Laguindingan Airport—which a 45-minute drive away—conveniently has a terminal on the other part of the mall.
Upon arrival from the airport, I was directed to the hotel’s sky lobby, which, like the other Seda hotels I’ve been to, was simple yet elegant. By the way, as I noticed, the hotel towers above the mall, not beside it, so all rooms do not receive any noise from the mall.
I was handed my room keys at once by the delightful staff, so off I went to one of the higher floors of the hotel.
I’ve always liked the design, layout, and furnishing of the rooms at Seda Hotels, and what I had in Seda Centrio was no exception. It had the same inviting appeal, as well as the same contemporary touches I love.
It had the needs of travelers covered—from the cozy bed to the stylish desk. The spotless bathroom, while on the small side, had a fantastic shower.
If there’s anything I really, really look forward to at a Seda hotel, it’s breakfast. The morning spread at Misto was always spectacular—it had a tasty array of Western, Asian, and Filipino dishes.
I also had dinner at the same restaurant. Surely, the dishes I had weren’t over-the-top gourmet, but they were prepared well. I especially enjoyed its take on tuna kinilaw (ceviche).
Since I was staying in a Club Room, I had access to the Club Lounge, an equally stylish space as the rooms. The breakfast there was a condensed version of what was served at Misto, while the evening cocktails had a modest yet delicious selection of hors d’oeuvres to complement the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
I was sadly nursing a mild fever the weekend I was staying there, so I stayed mostly in the room—though I was able to check out the hotel’s facilities, including its fitness center and swimming pool.
WHY STAY THERE
- By the quality of rooms, dining, and facilities, it is one of the best hotels in Cagayan de Oro.
- Its downtown location is convenient, with the shuttle to airport nearby.
- It has a really good breakfast buffet.
