My last trip to Taipei came such after a long time that I wanted to see and do a lot of things in four days. As such, it was only fitting that I pick a centrally-located hotel that would get me anywhere I wanted to go to in Taipei in minutes. And since I had a packed itinerary, it was a given that I wanted a luxurious hotel to retire to each tiring day. Fitting the bill was Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei, which turned out to be an excellent pick.
Both leisure and business travelers will find the location of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Taipei in downtown Daan convenient. It’s right in the heart of a business district, a stone’s throw away from the Taipei World Trade Convention and Exhibition Centre. Those who are in for some sightseeing, meanwhile, will come across no problem with transportation—the area is surrounded by several bus stops, including one for buses that go directly to Taoyuan Airport; the subway station is a just a few minutes by foot; and taxis and Uber cars frequent the area.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a purveyor of oriental luxury that is reflected well into every one of its hotels, and the one in Taipei is no exception. Its bright, high-ceiling lobby, which makes quite an impression, exudes a elegant local charm—it’s authentic minus the kitsch. And although the hotel has been been standing for a long time, it feels new, thanks to the renovations it has undergone.
Located at the the top floors, their Horizon Club Premium Room offers an excellent panoramic view of Taipei 101 and the skyline. Its tasteful design is inspired by oriental aesthetics and complemented by modern style, and like much of the hotel, it’s recently renovated.
The room comes with a slew of features and amenities, starting with the comfortable bed, the spacious sitting area, the handsome executive desk, and the lounge chairs that face the window. For an even more luxurious experience, it has a Nespresso machine, a Bose sound system, and a closet big for a hotel room. The marbled bathroom, on the other hand, is spacious and immaculate, and it comes with amenities by L’Occitane.
The classy Horizon Club Lounge, which also provides a spectacular view of the city, serves daily buffet breakfast, all-day refreshments, and evening cocktails with a superb selection of food and beverages.
Of course, being five-star, the hotel boasts of top-class facilities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, a salon and spa by Shiseido, and an inviting swimming pool that overlooks the city.
FOOD AND DRINK
The warm and casual Cafe at Far Eastern is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. It serves an extensive and tasty breakfast spread, consisting of Western, Asian, and Chinese fare.
Those staying at the hotel can rest assured that they’ll be well taken care of by the hotel’s courteous staff. The service is even more personalized at the Horizon Club Lounge.
